Finchingfield Guildhall Trust is a registered charity (no. 205016) and is responsible for maintaining and managing the Guildhall property. The Trust has its roots in charitable foundations dating from the 1500s and the Guildhall has always been an essential part of meeting charitable obligations. The current project is being carried out with the consent of the Charity Commission, who, despite the lack of almshouses in the proposed scheme, has decided that the Trust should retain this name, as a demonstrable link with the past, along with the freehold of the building. The Guildhall will remain vested with the Official Custodian and held in Trust for the village of Finchingfield. The Charity Commission is allowing the creation of a new charity which will be granted a lease on the building. This new charity will act as the management committee, with the trustees retaining ultimate responsibility.
Project team
The Trust set up a project team to manage the restoration of the building, fund-raising and to drive the development of Guildhall once the works are complete. The team is composed of the trustees and additional voluntary members, each of whom has brought new skills and experience in to the team.
